Hienghène & East Coast Grande Terre
If you have the chance, go and see the more remote east coast of Grande Terre. Beautiful landscape, less people and good diving in Hienghène. And just enjoy the drive along the coast! -

Pirogue excursion île des pins
Oh wow! Don't leave île des pins without this almost mandatory excursion in a traditional sailing boat going all the way up to Upi bay and from there by foot to the natural pool (piscine naturelle) and Oro bay. On a sunny day the variety of blue & turquoise colours paired with pure white sand will just knock you out. Incredibly beautiful spot!!! -

Peng Beach Lifou
If you are around Lifou, one of the Loyalty Islands, don't miss out on this heavenly paradise beach on the western side pf the island. It is quite remote, so most likely you will have the place for yourself. Crystal clear water, palm trees, silicia white sand and limestone rocks form this beautiful bay. Probably the most beautiful beach in Lifou (though Luengoni is not bad either) ;). -

Hukekep Camping Lifou
If you go camping you should definitely spend a night or two at this campground, just at one of the most beautiful beaches in Lifou: Luengoni beach. Great views, sounds of the ocean around, shady palmtrees and a well-equipped kitchen! -

Grotte de Qago Lifou
If you are keen on seeing a beautiful cave in Lifou, better opt for this one. It is not mentionned in any guide book nor visitor brochure, only few people know about it. The cave is located on the property of a tribal chief in Wé and the family runs 2 - 2,5h tours through the impressive cave. Bring swimming stuff (you need to swim to enter the cave), good shoes that can get wet, a headlamp and a waterproof camera. You will enjoy it!!!
You'll need to reserved ahead and make sure they give you proper directions or pick you up from a meeting point cause there are no signposts or similar. The local number to call is: 729682! -

Air Calédonie Airpass
Many people don't know about this option, but it is quite handy. Even though most of the islands can be reached by ferry, it takes a good 7h to reach the Loyalties. If you plan to visit 2 islands or more it pays off to look into the Airpass option offered by Air Calédonie where you buy 4 flights (depending on abailability) for a competitive price. You can for example take a return flight to île des pins and a return flight to one of the Loyalty islands (as we did) for about 250€ in total per person. You might as well take one flight to one Loyalty island and back from another one and get a separate ticket with Air Loyauté between the islands. Just mind that you only have 12kg included with the pass (excess luggage costs 2,5€ per kg) and beginning 2017 it was not possible to book the pass online. It needed to be requested by mail! If you are booking long in advance maybe promotional fares result in a similar price like the airpass.
