Some tipps for the little parts of Indonesia we have covered... -

Komodo National Park
Whether you want to go diving or cruise around the tiny islands of the park on a liveaboard (or both), just make sure Komodo is on your list if travelling to Indonesia. We were just stunned and still are by the beauty of nature under water and on shore.
If you are looking for a reliable diving operator with excellent staff, equipment and a safe boat, please do not hesitate to go and book with Uber Scuba. We would definitely go with them again!
And make sure you go on a tour to see the famous Komodo dragons out in the National Park, but ask around for safe agencies as there are some dodgy operators around. We went with Christian's Travel which was fine and safe, but still don't expect a luxury cruise :).
Komodo, what a great place!!! -

Le Pirate Labuan Bajo
If you go to the Komodo NP, you will have to pass by Labuan Bajo, the main gateway to the park on Flores Island. Infrastructure is surprisingly good (probably due to the high amount of divers around) and if you are up for a very nice sunset, head up to the roof top of Le Pirate on the main street. They have a small pool overlooking the harbour, nice lounge chairs and cocktail happy hours. Simply beautiful! -

La Cucina Labuan Bajo
Another good place in Labuan Bajo is La Cucina, a very small and super cozy Italian restaurant towards the end of the main street. The chef is Italian and you can taste it when you eat their pizza or pasta with homemade tomato sauce. Oh, and they had the best mango smoothie in town!! Out on the small balcony you got nice views of the sea as well. A little gem! -

Tanjung An beach Lombok
If you are in Lombok and spend some days around Kuta in the south of the island, make sure you rent a motorbike and go this beautiful jewel of beach east of town. A halfmoon bay, perfect white sand, calm turquoise water (those colours!) and best of all: not at all built up. This means no facilities, but a beautiful, clean and authentic beach. Postcard pictures guaranteed on a sunny day. -

Boat safety
Whenever you are intending to travel on a boat in Indonesia, make you sure you inform yourself beforehand about some general safety standars: are there life vests on board, are they using radio (especially if you travelling to the open sea), lights, etc. What seems to be standard for us is not necessarily standard over there and we have read and even heard first-hand horror stories about boats (not sure you can even call these rusty floating things boats) sinking somewhere in the ocean with no radio and no life vests on board. Please, do your homework, maybe pay a bit more, but BE SAFE!!!
