The training camp was in the French Pyrenees...

Hiking in the French Pyrenees

Mid August, we decided to train our legs in view of Alex' Everest expedition in Nepal so we went hiking in the French Pyrenees close to the "Col du Tourmalet".

On day one we explored the valley of Chiroulet and hiked up to the deepest lake of the Pyrenees - Le Lac Bleu. After a steep climb next to a gorgeous, but ice cold waterfall, we arrived at the lake and stopped for lunch with a view.

Afterwards we continued to climb another peak and then hiked down the valley through a pittoresque landscape with crystal clear lakes and rivers to arrive back at the carpark after a good 7,5 hours.

On day two we faced another challenging hike to go all the way up to the Pic du Midi de Bigorre, the highest peak in the Pyrenees.

With already tired legs we managed all the way up, even though Moni was struggling on the last part of the rocky and steep path.

However, it paid off and we enjoyed a beautiful view over the Pyrenees, emerald green lakes and even some cute marmots and lamas (yes, really, lamas).

After those 2 days of intense training and painful legs, we recovered in the spa of Bagneres.

Let's hope these two training days are sufficient for Alex to survive his expedition to the Everest Base Camp :)

Based on my experience in France Lac Bleu must be the deepest Lake not only in the pyrenees but in the World.
