After our wine excursion we were ready for the real adventure. We had rented a 4WD campervan to drive up all the way from Perth to Darwin. The first part of the journey took us through the amazing Pinnacle Desert, Shark Bay and the wild sandy François Peron National Park up to Exmouth. After our amazing stay in Tasmania we flew over to the West Coast and spent a couple of days in Perth, meeting some lovely friends from Alex' time in London. Then we headed out of town and went south to Margaret River, the most famous wine region in Western Australia. We spent our days hopping from winery to winery and enjoying the beautiful beaches and landscape around.

Travelling up the East Coast of Tasmania, we took the ferry to Maria Island with lots of wildlife around. The next stop was the Freycinet Peninsular where we went on a 3 days/ 2 nights camping trek to see famous Wineglass Bay. And then we moved further up to Bay of Fires with its white powder beaches and orange-hued granite boulders. Definitely a beautiful stretch in Tasmania.

We had to drive thousands of kilometers to reach the desert in the center of Australia where we went to see one of the signature landmarks of the country. Red dirt, an unexpected heatwave, wild camping and the most bizarre town we have ever seen contributed a great part to this unforgettable outback experience.

We spent our last days in New Caledonia with Fabien and Keisha and used their home as a base for our day trips to "Parc de la Rivière Bleu" in southern Grande Terre and to spend some time in Nouméa itself.

After a quick stopover in Nouméa we took another flight to Lifou, one of the Loyalty Islands north-east of Grande Terre. We had high expectations and were rewarded with another piece of peaceful paradise and diverse activities. Go ahead, see for yourself.

From Nouméa we flew over to Île des Pins (Pine Island) and even though we had quite some expectations, what this tiny paradise island kept ready for us was literally blowing our minds. We have never seen such a beautiful diversity of blue/turquoise colours and perfect white sandy beaches!!!

We finally arrived to New Caledonia, a less frequented piece of paradise on the western tip of the south Pacific, on 10th January 2017. Due to flight availability to the real paradise islands we started our journey on the main island, Grande Terre, and headed north of Nouméa, the capital city. Early on the 25th we took a flight via Denpasar to Flores Island to spend roughly a week diving the impressive waters of the Komodo National Park and see the famous and highly venomous Komodo dragons on shore. The activities there were a bit above our budget, but we can already tell you: it was worth EVERY SINGLE cent!

As Lonely Planet states: "This city isn’t going to inspire many postcards home, but it is the logical place to explore the Buddhist caves, sacred mountains and surrounding countryside." Not much more to add to that statement, but read for yourself about our 2-days exploration of Hpa-An and around.

We spent one day in the biggest city in Myanmar and visited the main attraction in town: the impressive Shwedagon Pagoda. Then we headed to one of the biggest Buddhist pilgrimage sites in Myanmar: the Golden Rock. Bagan is probably THE most touristic site in Myanmar, but we can already tell you: it is touristic for a reason. We spent three full days cycling around a vast area covered with many temples of different sizes and styles. The most magical moments were of course sunrise and sunset with stunning views.
